- INGREDIENTS
- 1 Tcup-Red Gram Daal ( Hindi Term Arhar Ki
Daal )
1 No- Onion ( Cut in Thin Slices )
1 No- Tomato ( Cut in Thin Slices )
2 Tsp- Salt ( To Taste )
A Big Lemon Size Ball of Tamarind
3 Tbsp- Readymade Sambhar Powder ( Everest )

- Tempering
- 3 Tbsp- Oil
A pinch- Asafoetida
A pinch- Fenugreek Seeds
2 Nos- Whole Red Chilli
½ Tsp- Mustard Seeds
2 Tsp- Ghee
Few Curry Leaves
¼ Tsp Red Chilli Powder

- METHOD
- 1. Pressure Cook the Daal with Salt for 2
Whistles.
2. Mash the Daal lightly.
3. Extract Juice of Tamarind by first soaking in Hot Water and
then squeezing out the Juice from it.
4. Heat Oil in a kadhai and then to it add Asafoetida and Fenugreek
Seeds.
5. Add Mustard Seeds,Red Chilli and Curry leaves and then add
Onions to it. Add Tomatoes to it. You can also add Vegetables
like Drumsticks, Brinjal, Pumpkin etc ( Cut in ½ inch
Cubes ) to it. Fry for 5 Minutes and then add Tamarind Juice
to it.Cover and Cook till the Vegetables are done.
6. Add the Cooked Daal and also add Water to thin down the Consitency
that is needed.
- Add Sambhar Powder to it and let the Sambhar
simmer well.
7. Temper the Sambhar with Ghee,Few Curry Leaves and Red Chilli
Powder.
8. Check the Seasoning and adjust accordingly.Serve hot.
